Free Write (Personal Narrative)

Personal narratives are in the long run a great way to tell a personal story to your readers and expressing yourself in ways that you normally could not. It gives great insight into the kind of person you are for your readers. Recent research has shown that the best way to teach this genre is to expose children to published writing that is like what you expect from them. Each lesson you teach them should be designed to help them see what the skill looks like in writing. Research in using this genre in the classroom has also shown an increase in student engagement with classmates, class activities, and a classroom community. The use of personal narratives allows the students to be seen for who they are, this includes their culture, background, personal history and personal knowledge.
The following is a summary of my original piece:
As a child, nobody completely understands the meaning of life and death, or for that matter, reality. As we journey through life, we eventually find our meaning and purposes for living and through religion some of us find meaning and comfort in death. But as a child, I was forced to contemplate the purpose of my existence and the value of my life as I went through a life changing/threatening experience, a journey, a war, a win or lose battle within my own body. Being on the verge of losing my own life has opened my eyes and has changed my entire view of the value of life as a whole.
